Language capers
Union rural development minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh is known for his wit. At times even his simple pronouncements in Hindi become a source of humour. Sample this: at a meeting to reallocate work among
bureaucrats, Raghuvansh said, "Mere dahine ore baithe joint secretary paani ka kaam dekhen ge and bayain ore pakhane ka" (the joint secretary sitting on my right will look after water and one on the left will take care of sanitation). It is needless to add that the officer in charge of sanitation looked for cover.

Laboured habits
Union labour minister Oscar Fernandes is increasingly becoming as an unpopular figure in his ministry.
The babus are upset at the minister's habit of taking his personal staff during his visits abroad instead of more qualified officials. As a result, the country's performance at international labour meets has taken a beating, they argue. But Oscar
who loves to spend considerable amount of time in looking after the Congress organization, is unfazed.--------------------------------------

Mulayam Singh Yadav and Ajit Singh are facing exodus from their respective parties. After Naresh Agarwal's move to quit Samajawadi Party, Ajit's key aides Khalid and Surendra Nagar have joined the BSP. Ajit, who is still keen for a tie-up with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh during the general elections, is worried that by the time polls are announced, he would have very few ticket seekers.

Nothing changes in Congress
Karnataka poll debacle has changed little in the Congress. The decision-making process continues to be tardy with Ahmad Patel,Digvijay Singh and Prithviraj Chavan calling shots in virtually all organizational matters. The issue of appointment of governors is hanging fire with more and more aspirants joining queue for Raj Bhawans in Mumbai, Sringar, Panaji and Dispur. But in the Congress think-tank, there is no sense of urgency.
