Aiyar out, Kalmadi sprouts

Guess who was the happiest person after the cabinet reshuffle? Indian Olympic association (IOA) chief Suresh Kalmadi could barely hide his glee. It was not as if Kalmadi got a berth in the council of ministers with the change in sports ministry. Kalmadi was deeply upset with Mani Shankar Aiyar for suggesting some regulation over sports bodies like IOA. Now that Aiyar has been shunted out, Kalmadi is promising to throw a lavish party. Kalmadi had circulated a note against Aiyar that has reached to almost everyone who matters in the UPA.

Kamal Nath's celestial fortunes

Kamal Nath had a great fall in Betul while campaigning for the party nominee for parliamentary by-elections.
Nath came out unscathed when the election meeting dais collapsed due to collective weight of union commerce and industry minister and 29 others.

The soothsayers quickly termed the event as a "bad omen" for Nath and the Congress but "in-house" astrologers had a different take. They said the fact that Nath and others rose unharmed, the celestial force(s) warded off something more dreadful.

Nath was heard saying if Congress high command permits him, he will quit union council of ministers and enter state politics. Madhya Pradesh is scheduled to go for assembly polls in November this year. The sudden announcement took most Congressmen by surprise. Nath protégé and Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Suresh Pachauri's jaw fell and he called for a glass of water to keep himself calm. Though Pachauri has never declared himself as chief ministerial candidate, he is known to secretly nurse the ambition that Nath expressed.

Now Amar Singh in the dock

Not true.

Amar Singh's complaint against Raj Thackeray who had targeted North Indians has been dismissed as "false and malicious." The Mumbai police rejected Samajawadi party general secretary's complaint of criminal intimidation concluding that there was not much substance in Singh's claim. Amar had had filed a complaint with the Mumbai's Azad Maidan Police Station after MNS activists disrupted a press conference by him in the area in February. The Mumbai police is now waiting for R.R. Patil's nod before filing a case against Amar Singh for lodging a false complaint.

Cops Getting to the Bottom?

Is there a case for Department of Wardrobe Security in Delhi and Mumbai police force? The recent Lakme Fashion week in Mumbai saw Czech model Fiona Moravec desperately trying to cover her delectable derriere when her skirt slipped on the ramp.

For many it was a sequel of 2004 Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins exposing her thonged derriere and continuation of Delhi Fashion Week's wardrobe malfunction when a foreign model's silk blouse had slipped off.

Last heard, Fiona's designer Rewa Pratap has promised to get to the bottom of the slip.

Pedigrees no go for Marxists

In CPI (M), the surnames do not count much. The recent party Congress at Coimbatore saw legendary E M Namboodiripad's daughter E M Radha getting no special status in the party. She was among dozens of other volunteers in the party along with renowned film maker Mani Ratnam's 17-year-old son Nandan.  Radha admitted that glittering lifestyle did not tempt her much and said, "I have been brought up in a different way. My father sold off his entire property for the cause of the party."
