Now will Pranab follow Advani? The spotlight on L.K. Advani's "my country, my life" has set many Congressmen thinking. A country cousin of Pranab Mukherjee was heard wondering if Pranab Da was to write his memoirs, who would write the foreword? From Sonia Gandhi to Manmohan Singh, the choice fell on Prakash Karat, known for measured words and sharpness.
The eclectic thinking wandered around several issues. Which are the areas that the good doctor did not consult him? What exactly happened in the race to Rashtrapati Bhawan and why was Mr. Indispensable shunted out of Defence to foreign affairs? Congressmen are also unanimously convinced that Pranab's autobiography will not have so many factual errors as Advani.

Rahul, BJP's Hope!
It may sound absurd but true. The top BJP leaders are counting on Rahul Gandhi for their party's success in election-bound Karnataka. The BJP think tank says if Rahul is fielded as Congress mascot in Karnataka, it will have a fair chance of netting the state. BJP leaders point at Rahul's dismal record to substantiate their argument. First Rahul was given charge of Uttar Pradesh and the result was the Congress slipped from its 2002 position. Next Gujarat saw disastrous Congress campaign. When will Rahul start his road shows in Karnataka? BJP wants to know as quickly as possible.

in 37 days from Madhya Pradesh capital to Delhi seeking justice for the world's worst industrial disaster. How are they victims and in desperate need of medical help if they could trudge for such a great distance in rather hostile climate? The NGOs are at pains to explain that it was most of the sympathizers and non-victims who walked in solidarity with the cause of gas victims.

The union cabinet is witnessing many more and frequent skirmishes these days. The other day, there was a heated argument between Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar and Commerce minister Kamal Nath. While the prime minister watched helplessly, P.Chidambaram sided with Nath. It was an unusual move as Chidambaram and Nath are far from being friendly.

Fatal Congress Connections
Arshad Madni's presence at Congress' Kanpur meeting did him in. The Jamiat-e-Ulema chief lost whatever support he had in Deoband seminary and other state units of Jamiat like Assam led by powerful Badaruddin Ajmal. Ajmal who fell out with the Congress to float Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) intensely disliked Arshad's insistence to go with the Congress. In the end, Arshad lost whatever support he had when he failed to explain his presence at UPCC meet. The ex-chief's proximity with some senior Congress functionaries was also held against him.
