Naidus’ no to dynastic succession
With more and more politicians initiating their children into politics, BJP vice president Venkaiah Naidu is proving to be an exception. Naidu recently hosted a lavish meal at his Delhi residence that featured tiger prawns, fish, kebab, biryani and other non-vegetarian stuff. Along with Naidu his daughter played host. When Naidu was asked if he was looking for a political role for his daughter, a firm no came from her before the father could endorse it.

Mystery hand behind Advani visit to 10, Janpath
Advani saga continues. The mystery over L.K. Advani's surprise visit to 10, Janpath is getting unraveled. Surprisingly it seems to be a brainchild of a Union Minister who fancies himself as a champion of Indian secularism. In one of the many ironies of Indian politics, the resident of Akbar Road has a friend in Advani. So when he failed to show up at prime minister-in-waiting's book release function, he explained it in terms of Advani-Sonia bad-blood. In fact no congress leader including an omnipresent Maj. Ved Prakash was permitted to attend the function. The minister in turn is said to have suggested to Advani to call on Sonia and restore functional ties. Holi festival provided an ideal opportunity. The question that is doing the discreet rounds in the Congress is if Advani-Sonia rapprochement can be touted as a victory of secularism?

Top left leaders can visit 10, Janpath almost at will. Then there was a surprise appearance by Mayawati. Advani followed. Now all eyes are on Mulayam Singh Yadav's appearance at Sonia's door. You heard it here first!

SAFMA Relieved
The return of democracy in Pakistan has pleased the Indian chapter of SAFMA most. The protagonists of free media in South Asia were badly hit by emergency and political turmoil in the neighbourhood. But as soon as elections got over and before a new prime minister took oath, an Indian delegation of SAFMA rushed to Islamabad to greet the new political establishment. Their charter of demand and desires is endless.

Mosquito menace
Advani may be basking in glory nowadays, but mosquitoes in country's financial capital were less than impressed with BJP's mascot. Advani was in Mumbai to unveil a statue of Shivaji, but the mosquitoes had different plans. The prime minister in waiting had a terrible time waiting for his turn to speak. Former union minister Ram Naik understood Advani's discomfort and produced a mosquito repellent cream. A grateful Advani applied it in full public glare. It is a different matter that due to local stir, the crowd was modest. |
