The Impatient Maharaja
The maharaja is all geared up to get into a ministry but there is a small catch. There is no invitation for young Jyotiraditya Scindia to join the Manmohan Singh Government.
Scindia camp is however working overtime to speculate the ministry that will have the Gwalior stamp. Foreign office tops the wish list, followed by rural development and sports. But Sports minister Mani Shankar Aiyar is in no mood to relinquish the sports portfolio. His staff point out that as Sports Minister Mani's visit abroad has been cleared by PMO so there is no threat till mid-April.
Scindia is hoping to get into Manmohan government in the fag end of UPA tenure in place of Suresh Pachauri, the Union Minister of State for Personnel and Parliamentary affairs, whose exit from the government is expected as he has been appointed as Madhya Pradesh Congress chief.

Fathers of the Nation---Rama, Krishna!
If you think Bharat Ratna controversy had died down, think again. A bigger controversy is brewing. The BJP in Uttar Pradesh has a tough call. Its angry and temperamental MP Yogi Adityanath has demanded father of the nation status for Rama and Krishna. Yes, the Gods! The Congresswallahs have gone to town dubbing it as an insult to Bapu Mahatma Gandhi. Yogi is in no mood to withdraw his remark that said, "Mahatma Gandhi has no right to be called rashtrapita, as he was the man behind country's partition. Only Rama and Krishna deserve that." BJP national president Rajnath Singh is trying to sidestep the issue saying it was Yogi's personal view.

Making up sweet-ly!
S.M. Krishna is back in home state Karnataka. So when state president Mallikarjuna Kharge called on him, Krishna served his piping hot filter coffee.
For a handful of party leaders who were present, Krishna's gesture to serve Kharge extra cubes of sugar was a clear signal that the former Fulbright scholar wanted to buy peace. But Krishna insists that it he was merely being a good host. According to him, a sugarless coffee was served to Kharge by mistake and when he realized that the guest was gulping down bitter coffee, he tried to make it taste sweeter.

Samajawadis’ truancy
Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh got a rude shock during their party's national executive meeting in Jabalpur. Only three out of eight MLAs belonging to their party turned up at the meet. Rest of them stayed back in Bhopal to help out the ruling BJP in a keen Rajya Sabha contest. Amar was ordered to rush to Bhopal to discipline erring party MLAs. By the time voting took place, the party had the honour of retaining six out of eight votes in favour of a combined opposition nominee who failed to make it. Among the three MLAs who were present at the national executive, one Dr. Sunilam was spotted tirelessly filming Jaya Prada from his personal handycam.

Jamiatis peace plan
The ouster of Jamiat-e-Ulema chief Maulana Arshad Madni turned out to be a short-lived affair. Jamiat, considered to be an influential body of Deobandi Muslims in the country, now has set up a committee under a retired judge to resolve its leadership issue. Assam Jamiat chief and head of Assam United Democratic Front leader Badaruddin Ajmal is said to have played a pivotal role in working out a peace plan. Jamiat seminary Dar-ul-Uloom at Deoband witnessed chaotic scenes since Madni's exit. Classes and examinations were boycotted and anti-Madni teachers and scholars were violently attacked. |
