Sonia, Maya in the same boat

Mayawati and Sonia Gandhi have found something in common. Both do not have a narcissistic streak in them. It is evident from their common dislike for filmy tributes on them. Since last year's victory, Maya memsahib has been blessed with over a half a dozen film projects but she has been resisting all of them. Maya was angry and agitated when Iqbal Attarwala, a shady character from Mumbai  announced a film on her and even claimed getting her permission. The Uttar Pradesh chief minister personally called up the TV channel to deny the claim. Two other scripts have been registered "Maya the Great" and "Behenji --- the Great Sister." But Maya will have none of it.

Congressmen in UP are gleefully adding that Sonia and Maya have another issue in common – their dislike for a particular filmy family.

Z plus perks for Pachauri

Madhya Pradesh Congress president Suresh Pachauri is a lone fall guy. The recent Rajya Sabha polls saw all other ministers of state like Prithviraj Chavan and Subbirami Reddy getting another term to the upper house and continuing their presence in the council of ministers. But the minister of state for personnel, pension and parliamentary affairs is set to lose his job later this month when his continuous 24-year term in Rajya Sabha will come to an end.

Pachauri has been given "Z-plus" security cover. In Madhya Pradesh where Pachauri is now expected to spend most of his time till November assembly polls, only Uma Bharti and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan have "Z-plus" cover. In Congress circles, the uncharitable view is that Pachauri has been put in "Z-plus" league so that the politician continues to look very important person.

Having a "Royal" time

It sounds rather incredible, but it is true. Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Veer Bhadra Singh has not been home in Shimla since losing assembly polls in December last year. Veer Bhadra says he has been out.

First on a month-long fitness ayurvedic Kairali massage therapy in Kerala and then in Delhi. The Congress unit has been waiting in the hill state to start afresh, appoint new leader in the house and submit a report to the AICC but in Raja Veer Bhadra's absence, everything has been on hold. Veer Bhadra wonders why his party men are making such a fuss about his return. Was it not that his party colleague and former Maharaja of Patiala Amrinder Singh stayed out of Punjab for months after his defeat as chief minister of the state. Amrinder was facing corruption allegations too but that did not deter him from traveling to London and Edinborough.

Munshi's awry calculations

Priyaranjan Dasmunshi is a bit subdued man these days. Munshi has had a sobering effect after he failed to strike an alliance with Mamata Banerjee in the Rajya Sabha polls. The Trinamul nominee Dinesh Trivedi was counting on a formula that envisaged Congress backing him and in 2010, Trinamul returning the favour to the Congress. But Pranab Mukherjee and a section of left parties had other plans. An Urdu journalist having many friends in the Congress, camped in central hall of parliament to get the necessary support. The Congress leadership backed him as an independent for the sake of secularism.

Munshi has a problem in hand. As WBPCCC chief, his first task has seen a left backed nominee winning the day. Looks like Munshi will start spending more time in Delhi until dust settles down.

Ignored Paswan trying to do a Laloo

Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan is trying to do a "Laloo" but nobody is noticing it. Somewhat envious of the union railway minister's status as a "turn-around" man, Paswan too is trying his hands at making some of the PSUs under his ministry as "profitable."  These days he is spending considerable time and energy to streamline PSUs. Everything is going fine except that the national and international media is ignoring Paswan's "achievements.
