To merely state that the Left has clarity in all its deeds would be an understatement. And one has to view its resurrected third front theory in the following context. The useless Congress is not worthy enough to run a regional government in a small state like Kerala, the Left has been known to say. How true! Yet, the Left is left with no option but to support the Congress at the Centre! So far, it is indeed, very clear. No doubt, the communists are inevitably responsible to keep such an arrangement in power nationally yet threaten to withdraw support if it morphs into an arraignment vide submission to the USA's global nuclear policy. After such a step backwards, the Reds will explore the needs to back the Congress again...plain as pikestaff. If we twirl a defence whirl with the Americans it is obviously wrong, but we are duty bound to kow-tow and bow to the diktat for a similar exercise from our neighbourly northern Hwang-Ho. It means south-south-powwow. Wow! We must intensively investigate every innocent Yankee handout loaded in our favour but blindly agree to handover part of our sovereign territory to please China saying 'cheese' with ease. Can anything be more simple and sans crease? Of course the Left is right in criticising the United Progressive Alliance regime for helping the rich, increasing the price ante of essentials, impoverishing the unfortunate poor further, selling our public sector for all of thirty pieces of silver and foolishly allowing capitalists to outsource our precious resources.
But when Beijing has done the same, the Marxist Chief Ministers have correctly pontificated that globalisation is the mantra of modernity. We cannot be sane if we don't accept this exceptional axiom because Jyoti Basu, a former Chief Minister, has endorsed it. Isn't the whole thing a holy, holistic holism meant to last the entire Holocene? Naturally those who profess socialism have to socialise politically to propagate an alternative third front. I am swallowing this sagacity hook, line and sinker because policies of governance evolve from time to time. So what if the idea was shot down only six months ago by the same people with serious sincerity? In a nutshell, the communists say that they will not topple the government, but, cannot be held responsible for its fall if the plug is pulled due to political expediency despite honourable intentions for making it last the whole tenure. If this isn't pristine policy what else can be? Communists have discovered that capitalism is a much-needed, necessary evil. Despite this being a paradoxical antithesis, I can only marvel at the magnificence of the mangled motto. A few years ago, a Marxist floor leader in parliament revealed that his party was using democracy to destroy it. Pursuant to this patriotic prediction, the Left is writhing to right the Right, as it is its right. So, at the peril of repetition, I can only say, if the Left has a future in India, India has no future left.
