Maken makes it
Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken cannot hide his glee. Maken has reasons to be pleased with himself. After all he has earned handsome compliments from none other than Rahul Gandhi. Maken was AICC's in charge of Orissa and Jharkhand and organized Rahul's "discover India yatra" in Orissa where the young Gandhi drew substantial crowd in each public appearance. The itinerary, accommodation, food, media interaction and other arrangements were near perfect. Rahul said to have praised Maken's organizational ability and observed that the New Delhi was doing "justice" to both ministerial and party post. This, according to Maken, is a huge setback including a chief minister who has been gunning for him and insisting that the politician should be divested of either ministry or the organizational assignment.

Wooing Muslims for BJP!
BJP's "Muslim show boy" Shahnawaz Hussain has embarked upon a rather ambitious plan to court Muslims for the BJP. Shahnawaz will be traveling to Hyderabad on April 4 to hold a convention in Nizam's city. The Kishanganj MP who flaunts a portrait of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in BJP national headquarters is confident that he will be able to allay some of the misgivings about the BJP. The assignment is challenging all right, if not impossible.

"Pura" Shiv Sainik
Industrialist Rajkumar Dhoot got an instant crash course in Shiv Sena ethics the moment he got Rajya Sabha nod from the party. Dhoot was in Sena office when he received a call from Mukesh Ambani for some important business talk.
Dhoot who was facing Uddhav Thackeray perhaps wanted to cut short conversation and told Ambani, "main zara Sena party mein hoon." Uddhav immediately corrected him saying he was no longer "zara" (bit) but "pura" (full) in Sena. Dhoot quickly told Ambani that he was completely in Shiv Sena.

Salma's dip, clergies flip
The fatwa factory is itching to take on vice president Hamid Ansari's wife Salma. Salma has drawn Islamic cleric's attention during her recent visit to Prayag in Allahabad where she reportedly took a "holy dip" at Sangam. For the orthodox clergy, her act is un-Islamic and calls for apology. However the liberal sections of Muslim clergy make a distinction between taking a "simple" dip in water and fulfilling a religious obligation amid chanting of mantras. Salma and vice president's office is keeping a discreet silence hoping to avoid a needless controversy.

Sadhvi's Kalyan?
Uma Bharti has formally invited "brother" Kalyan Singh to join the Bharatiya Jan Shakti (BJS). The BJP vice president is in political wilderness after her party's humiliating performance in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls. Uma however accuses the BJP of sidelining a mass-base leader like Kalyan wondering why BJP chief Rajnath Singh has gone "scot-free" over UP debacle. According to firebrand sadhvi, this is a glaring example of BJP's double speak and shabby treatment to socially weaker but influential caste leaders. Would Kalyan, a fellow Lodh, respond to sister's call and join a near defunct BJS? |
