Hen Pecked husbands
AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh is member of Madhya Pradesh assembly. He was speaking in MP assembly when his wife Asha walked in. Diggy paused and greeted his wife prompting the ruling BJP members to mock at him. Speaker Ishwardas Rohani joined in and observed that Digvijay "roars" in the house but "mews like pussy-cat" before the wife. Quick-wit Digvijay said he agreed with the chair and added, "And sir, I am privileged to be in the league of our chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan." The reference stumped the chief minister whose wife Sadhna has been constantly accused of interfering in official work and appointment.

Taking on King Khan
Akshay Kumar too showed his sense of humour. At a film award ceremony, King Khan Shah Rukh was constantly making fun of the actor saying given a chance "Akki" would dance and perform at any wedding or birthday function. Akshay said he agreed with anchor Shah Rukh's assessment and told the audience that he had in fact received a call from Gauri Khan asking him to perform at son's birthday. The instant and probably cooked-up story had desired impact forcing Shah Rukh to spare Akki from becoming butt of the joke.

Leader-less Rajputs
The row over Jodhaa Akbar is refusing to die down. Just as Uttar Pradesh government followed Madhya Pradesh's footsteps in imposing ban on the movie, Maharashtra's Sangli town witnessed trouble. Agitated Rajput community is on the lookout for a 'national leader' to take up their case. Their leader Amar Singh is missing. The Samajwadi party leader credited with organizing several Rajput mahasabhas has reportedly excused himself citing "conflict of interest" as a reason.
The movie features his 'daughter-in-law' Aishwariya as Jodhaa. Digvijay Singh, Jaswant Singh and Rajnath too have declined to lead the movement. Pratapgarh's Raja Bhaiya too is silent having taken a cue from Amar Singh. These are certainly troubled times for Rajput community that leaders are avoiding to take up matters of honour.

Hunt for NCW Chairperson
A search is on for the new National Women Commission's (NCW) chairperson. Present incumbent Girija Vyas' tenure has come to an end. Vyas is keen for another term but the prime minister's office (PMO) is less than enthusiastic. Vyas is now lobbying with 10, Janpath on a plea that she will "whole-heartedly" work for high command's choice of nominee in home state Rajasthan which is going to polls later this year.
The nodal ministry woman and child welfare is also sitting tight. Minister Renuka Chaudhary who has a view on everything under the sun is uncharacteristically quiet and subdued. Her detractors whisper that the minister is herself wary of being shunted out to NCW.

To Poll(s) or not to Poll(s)
P.Chidambaram's "dream budget" has enthused Congressmen so much that many are toying with the idea of early Lok Sabha polls around Diwali. But the high command's think-tank is sharply divided on Lok Sabha versus Rajya Sabha. The members of upper house who dominate the Congress Working Committee are keen to push for early polls but Pranab Mukherjee, Kamal Nath and other influential Lok Sabha members feel the life of 14th Lok Sabha should be extended till April-May 2009. All eyes are now on Rahul Gandhi on which way he will lend weight. |
