Gujarat, Himachal, PM Unfazed

The good doctor is unfazed by the enormity of the Gujarat verdict. What is more interesting is that Dr. Manmohan Singh seems to think that Congress' crushing defeat will not affect nuclear deal at all! When a senior cabinet minister called him up fearing that the fate of n-deal has become more uncertain, the prime minister reportedly laughed and said losing one state here and there would not affect major policy initiatives and programmes. The deal is in national interest, so be it, Manmohan reportedly said.
CPM's Prakash Karat may take a note of it and tell the world why the prime minister is so confident of getting the n-deal through.

I have Not Got Mail

AICC general secretary Margaret Alva and Union Minister Oscar Fernandes go a long way. They both hail from Karnataka, Christian community and have been famously loyal to Nehru-Gandhi family. Margaret was therefore more than surprised when Oscar did not show up at a function in memory of her parents.

They met at South Avenue club Christmas celebrations when Margaret sought an explanation from the old pal. The man who loves to play mouth organ was speechless saying he did not get the invite. Maggie had her counter ready pointing that it was hand-delivered. The minister for Labour got the matter investigated but the findings are little embarrassing. Apparently the invite did reach him but since his wife Blossom was away, the letter was not opened. Oscar, it is learnt, depends too heavily on Blossom to scan his mail.

Advani floors Diggy Raja

L.K. Advani caught AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh rather off guard. It happened when the AICC general secretary and "prime minister-in-waiting" were traveling together in a commercial airline. Diggy raja was reading a foreign publication that had extensive report on politicians' "family rule" spreading across the continents. Digvijay noticed that Advani too was glancing at the write-up. The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister hurriedly finished reading and offered the newspaper to BJP strongman. Advani took it with a polite "thank you" but pointed at the article saying, "I guess you people need to read it carefully." Digvijay could neither laugh nor respond in his trademark style.

Paswan gets PM's clean chit

Political opponents of Ram Vilas Paswan are going too far. They have dug out a detail about a film producer who is making a film with Paswan junior, Chirag in lead. The slur is that the producer is a drug manufacturer too. The extension of this smear campaign is since Paswan is heading ministry for Chemicals and Fertilizers, son's Bollywood take-off may have been inspired by other considerations. But Paswan got a clean chit when some overenthusiastic lobbyist told Prime Minister. Dr Manmohan Singh rubbished it citing Ritesh Deshmukh, son of Vilasrao Deshmukh as a "successful" actor regardless of his father's status as chief minister of Maharashtra.
