Independent Shahrukh
Rajiv Shukla may never be tired of flaunting his proximity to Shahrukh Khan as Amar Singh of Amitabh Bachchan, but the Khan of Bollywood is proving to be a lot more independent.
Just the other day, Shahrukh walked up to Amitabh congratulating him for getting away with Barabanki land deal controversy. For Shukla and many Congressmen, this was hardly an issue to compliment Big B. But Shahrukh had his own calculations. Apparently, the actor had reasons to break ice with Amitabh. Shahrukh and his friend Farhan Akhtar intend to make a Don sequel, a project that fancies Big B too. Amitabh was reportedly moved by Shahrukh's gesture and is actively considering a waiver.

Advani "Breaking News"
The manner in which Bharatiya Janata Party decided to crown L.K. Advani as its "Prime Minister-in-waiting" led to considerable speculation both inside and outside the sangh parivar.
Advani's own take is that it was in keeping with Sangh's principle of having a strong leader in line with Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Balasaheb Deoras and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, so that all allied organizations observe discipline and order. A close associate of Advani claimed that when the BJP top leadership met, the only point of debate was whether to make the announcement in the morning or in the evening. Advani opted for evening reminding the party leadership about a media workshop that was supervised by M.V. Kamath. The seasoned media practitioner reportedly had told BJP that evening "breaking news" was ideal to derive the maximum mileage.
Advani's elevation as "Prime Minister-in-waiting" has led to some loud thinking too. In Ashoka Road, a wag was heard wondering what happens if Narendra Modi is defeated in Gujarat. Would not Advani have to offer his resignation on moral grounds?

Shahid-Sania, a pair?
It is too good to be true but then it cannot be mere coincidence either. The actor and tennis star were spotted together in a Bangalore hotel recently.
Both are young and eligible.
Shahid Kapur and Sania Mirza were spotted dining together. Apparently one of Shahid's friends Shriram is also friends with Sania. After dinner, a roving eye could not help noticing a brief 'Don't disturb' card dangling outside Shahid's room's doorknob.

Pranab and Pawar breaking rules
The Ministry of External Affairs officials are little exercised but tight-lipped about it. Minister Pranab Mukherjee is a stickler for rules, norms and conventions but there is one area that is little baffling. Pranab loves to hold meetings in his ministerial chambers. As long as these meetings extended to Group of Ministers (GoMs), the MEA mandarins saw nothing wrong with it. But recently Pranab went on chairing a meeting of West Bengal Congress in South Bloc that too on a weekend. A number of officials belonging to all ranks were summoned ruining their holiday. They were later heard wondering why bhadralok Pranabda failed to see probity and propriety in this sphere?
Another senior minister going Pranab way is Sharad Pawar. The Union Agriculture Minister had maintained a clear line between his official engagements and cricket. But of late, Pawar has broken the code and started speaking about cricket with media in his first floor Krishi Bhavan Chamber. Some highly placed babus feel Union Cabinet Secretary would do well to send a polite note to these ministers reminding them that Raisina Hill premises were strictly for official work than party politics or cricket.

No Politics for these girls
Union Minister for Sports and Panchayati Raj Mani Shankar Aiyar was in for a shock when he asked Delhi's Indraprastha College girls if they viewed politics as a career. Among hundreds of girls, only few hands went up. Aiyar said he was surprised, as IP College has produced Sheila Dixit, Meira Kumar, Ambika Soni, Shyama Sinha and others. There was more surprise for the minister when he was told that the college has "consciously" dissociated itself from Delhi University politics so much so that IP students do not even participate in Delhi university Student Union (DUSU) polls. |
