Political Migratory Birds

It appears to be season of migratory birds trying to return home. K. Karunakaran, K. Natwar Singh and Madanlal Khurana are working overtime to return "home." Karunakaran, a former chief minister of Kerala is best placed. The Congress is keen to bring back the old but most recognizable "Hindu" face in Kerala where it is hoping to crush the left alliance government. In Lok Sabha too, Left alliance has 20 against Congress' none. Prospects of Karunakaran getting into the Congress are bright as Sonia Gandhi is equally keen to get the "loyalist" in. Karunakaran's "loyalty" towards Nehru-Gandhi family is legendary. When he formed a breakaway party recently, he named it as Congress (Indira). Most Delhi-based Kerala ministers are keen to get  him but state Congress unit Chief Ramesh Chennithala is dead against it considering the old man a "threat" for his chief ministerial claim in future.

Diplomat Natwar Singh has literally been crying on every Congressman's shoulder. Union minister of state for parliamentary affairs Suresh Pachauri is said to be lobbying for Natwar's return. The former external affairs man is prepared to issue a public apology and seeks nothing in return. But there is studied silence from 10, Janpath.

BJP's rebel Madanlal Khurana is regretting too. The man, who has a foot in the mouth disease, has been meeting a number of BJP leaders including his junior and rival Vijay Kumar Malhotra. Like Karunakaran, Khurana's chances are bright. Would the New Year usher in good season for these migratory birds?

The Royal Tiffs

The Maharaja and Maharani are again at loggerheads. Gwalior MP and Jyotiraditya Scindia's aunt Yashodhara has gone ballistic questioning her nephew's presence at the inaugural Indian Delhi-Gwalior-Bhopal flight along with Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. Yashodhara, MP from Gwalior has shot off a missive to Lok Sabha Speaker drawing Somnath Chatterjee's attention towards the "gross injustice." She wonders what Jyotiraditya was doing when he has "nothing" to do with Gwalior. She has a point as former maharaja of Gwalior represents Guna
Lok Sabha.

Yasho-Jyotiraditya love to cross swords on almost all issues relating to erstwhile Gwalior estate.

If family sources are to be believed, they are not even on talking terms.

Meira Kumar's oratory!

Union social justice minister Meira Kumar's oratorical skills leave a lot to be desired. Recently Kumar, the daughter of the veteran late dalit leader, Jagjivan Ram was piloting a path-breaking bill on old parents delivered a long speech. Many MPs who had come prepared to discuss the bill had to struggle hard to keep awake. Few quietly moved to central hall of parliament to  rejuvenate with coffee. The conversation turned to Kumar's presentation. A MP who had envisaged keen interest in the passage of the bill could not help saying, "yaar it is better to get a kick from your children than having to hear this speech!"

Black Humour on Congress Muslims

Congress leadership certainly has a sense of humour. When large number of Muslim Congress leaders complained that they were not allowed to campaign in Gujarat, the party president suggested to them to fan out to another poll-bound state Himachal Pradesh. The Muslim leaders learnt that there was not a single Muslim nominee in the fray. In fact, in the last 60-years, the Congress has not fielded a single Muslim nominee on account of negligible population. Last heard a few of them who heeded to Sonia advice has caught a bad cold.

Tom in the Doghouse

Congress media secretary Tom Vaddakan is in the dog house. The ambitious Congressman from Kerala recently called on ailing Kerala Muslim League chief Sayed Mohamedali Shihab Thangal. The goodwill gesture would have been fine had Tom not responded to local TV channels' request for a sound byte. Tom told TV channels that he had  come with "Soniaji's message." Some interpreted it as Congress chief's attempts to sound Thangal over Karunakaran's home-coming.

Kerala Congress unit Chief Ramesh Chennithala who loves to hate Tom was quickly on phone pointing at the "indiscretion" and Tom's "lightweight status" to carry such an assignment. 10, Janpath quickly disowned the mission that the media secretary had himself embarked upon. Tom is now busy clarifying to everyone that he did not mean what he said.
