Punjab Politicians' videshi dilemma

In Punjab all foreign visits of the chief minister, his son and opponents have to be cleared by the courts. It sounds bizarre but all true. Former state chief minister Capt.Amarinder Singh recently sought court's permission to travel aboard. Next, chief minister Prakash Singh Badal's son, Sukhbir Singh, MP and acting president of Akali Dal was in Dubai, after taking court's permission. Badal senior himself needs court's clearance as Amarinder regime had slapped a number of cases against the father-son duo and all other important Akali leaders. Badal reciprocated the gesture after taking over as chief minister.
Now  there is sign of a thaw. Sukhbir was heard commenting if the two sides agree to withdraw cases so that they can travel aboard more frequently…………

Pleasing Rahul

Uttar Pradesh Congressmen had a tough time pleasing Rahul Gandhi. When Rahul was in Lucknow, a local leader walked up to strike a conversation. Referring to state assembly polls, he said Congress suffered as Mulayam Singh's party collapsed against Mayavati. Rahul was not convinced. He asked party leader to check facts. Samajwadi Party's vote share has gone up, he was told. Next, another bhaiya began cursing caste-based politics targetting Mayavati. Rahul had a word of advise ------- look at party's state of affairs and level of commitment. The conversation stopped. Congressmen realised that Rahul had got his arithmetic's right. The UPCC office at Mall Avenue has got a well-deserved coat. The last whitewash was in 1991, the year Rajiv died.

Kapoor family re-union

Sawaariya may not have done too well at box office but Sanjay Leela Bhansali's work has brought peace at Kapoors leading to a family reunion. Actress Kareena was seen at the Sawaariya premier with Uncle Rishi and aunty Neetu cheering cousin Ranbir Kapoor.

Kareena, mother Babita and sister Karishma (Lolo) were not invited for Rishi's daughter Riddhima's wedding. Kapoors are tightlipped about the differences between Rishi-Randhir. Some say it was a recent development as Rishi and his family was invited for Lolo's wedding. According to Kareena, there was never any "real" feud. "There were some issues that got cleared over time. I am in touch with all of them," Bebo said.

Who has a view?

Nandigram violence has made Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee edgy. The minister, Lok Sabha MP from Jangipur, West Bengal turned speechless when asked to comment on the orgy of violence in Nandigram. "I stand by the remarks of the AICC general secretary in charge of Bengal," Pranab told hawkish scribes of Bengal-based newspapers in New Delhi. A search was launched to trace Mohsina Kidwai, AICC general secretary looking after Bengal. Kidwai was in Lucknow preparing to receive Rahul Gandhi. Finally when she was tracked, the veteran leader said she endorses the views of Pranab Mukherjee on Nandigram.

Journos' Russian Chill

The chill in Indo-Russian ties has pinched scribes too. Indian scribes who accompanied Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to Russia had to cough up $ 575 a day for a double room in Moscow to brave Russian winter. Those familiar with Moscow say it was almost fifty per cent higher than normal tariff. Does it have to do something with the official chill?

Bhansali's Blues

Heard at a Mumbai multiplex. "Sanjay Leela Bhansali should change his name to Sanjay Neela Bhansali considering that everything is dyed-in-blue in Sawaariya."

And if that isn't enough, we all know he's going blue in the face defending his film and lambasting critics.
